Bruce Elliott's book Irish Migrants in the Canadas indicates that an action was initiated in 1875 by Joseph Gleeson, who sued his father for possession of the homestead, citing an unregistered agreement in which the father had turned the land over to him for an annuity or rent charge.  The parties settled out of court in 1876, with Joseph paying his father $156 in arrears and agreeing to pay an annual rent charge of $40.  Two years later, old Michael Gleeson released title and guaranteed his support by using a combination of three types of legal instruments.

Mount Shannon at Castleconnell Co.Limerick

Ralph Barclay Young speculates that the Mount Shannon Estate referred to as Micheal Young's birth place is the Mount Shannon Estate in Castleconnel Co.Limerick near Newport.  It is unlikely that the Young's ever owned the estate but could have been tenants or employees of the estate.

The following is information about a Mount Shannon Estate at Castleconnell Co.Limerick(half way between Newport and Limerick).  A 2 storey C18 house, enlarged and magnificently furnished by John FitzGibbon, 1st Earl of Clare, Lord Chancellor of Ireland at the time of the Union and one of the most powerful men in Ireland of his day; remodelled in neo-Classical style post 1813 by Byron’s friend, 2nd Earl, to the design of Lewis Wyatt, James Pain also worked her for 2nd Earl, either superfixing the remodelling according to Wyatt’s design, or carrying out subsequent alterations. 7 bay entrance front with pedimented port-cochere of 4 gient Ionic columns. Adjoining front of 5 bays, the end bays breaking forward and having Wyatt windows under relieving arches in the lower storey. Lower service wing. Large rooms, but hardly any internal ornament; fine hall and library; French gilt furniture in the drawing room and morning room. 3rd and last Earl of Clare, who did not have the Government pensions which 1st and 2nd Earls had enjoyed, and who was generous in giving finacial help to emigrants after the Famine, left the estate impoverished; so that his daughter(who?), who inherited it, was obliged to sell most of the valuable contents of the house 1888. The house itself was sold ca 1893 to the Nevin family; it is now a ruin.

Ralph Barclay Young speculates that there may be a family connection to this family he met in Ireland 1993.
